| Tenants v Kopley Group V, L.P. Chicago Renters' Rights Class Action
The alleged
class consists of more than 250 renters at a large Chicago apartment building at
5200 N Sheridan, managed by the Kopley Group.
In this case
it is alleged that the landlord illegally mortgaged tenants' security
deposits and prepaid rent, and failed to disclose certain code violations in
writing when entering into leases.
Damages equal
to two-times each tenants' security deposit are sought, plus damages equal to
one-month's rent for alleged failures to disclose recent building code
violations before tenants entered into leases.
